Working in New Albany

New Albany does not work like most Columbus suburbs. Morning traffic on the SR-161 expressway runs inbound, because the New Albany International Business Park is where the jobs are and most of the people filling them live somewhere else. The work here splits between corporate office roles, life sciences and pharma manufacturing, data centers and semiconductors, logistics and fulfillment, and professional and financial services, so schedules range from standard weekdays to nights and weekends. If you are searching from Westerville, Gahanna or Pataskala, New Albany is a realistic commute rather than a stretch. You can browse current New Albany listings before you decide.

Who hires here

The employer list in New Albany is short, and most of it sits in or around the New Albany International Business Park off SR-161:

  • Abercrombie & Fitch and Bath & Body Works both run corporate headquarters operations in New Albany, on the retail apparel side.
  • Amgen is the life sciences and pharma manufacturing presence here.
  • Amazon is in New Albany on the logistics and fulfillment side.
  • Intel is building its Ohio One semiconductor campus on the Licking County side of the park. It is still under construction, with first fab operation pushed to roughly 2030 or 2031, so it is pipeline demand rather than current headcount. Construction trades hiring there is real today.
  • Red Roof Inn keeps its corporate offices in New Albany.

These employers and their neighbors post on our New Albany job search.

The commute reality

New Albany is a net job importer, not a bedroom community. The daily flow runs toward the business park rather than away from it, with workers driving in from Westerville, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg, Newark, Johnstown and Pataskala. The main approach is the SR-161 New Albany Expressway, which connects to I-270 and US-62. Residents who do commute out of New Albany generally head to Easton, Polaris or downtown Columbus on 161 and 270. If your schedule is flexible, evening and overnight starts at the fulfillment and manufacturing sites put you on 161 outside the normal weekday rush in both directions. You can start with second and third shift openings across the metro.

Common questions

Do I need to live in New Albany to work there?

No. New Albany is a net job importer, and the business park draws workers in daily from Westerville, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg, Newark, Johnstown and Pataskala. Most of that traffic uses the SR-161 New Albany Expressway with connections to I-270 and US-62. If you already live on the northeast or east side of the Columbus metro, working in New Albany is a daily drive rather than a relocation decision.

Is Intel hiring in New Albany right now?

Intel's Ohio One campus sits on the Licking County side of the New Albany International Business Park and is still under construction, with first fab operation pushed to roughly 2030 or 2031. Treat it as pipeline demand rather than current headcount. Construction trades hiring on the site is real today, so if you are in the trades it is worth watching. For anything else, set up job alerts for New Albany and check back rather than waiting on it.

What kinds of jobs are in the New Albany business park?

Five sectors sit next to each other: corporate headquarters and retail apparel, life sciences and pharma manufacturing, data centers and semiconductors, logistics and fulfillment, and professional and financial services. That mix covers both salaried office roles and hourly warehouse and production shifts. Keep in mind that the semiconductor side is still being built, so hiring there today is construction trades work rather than fab work. For hourly roles you can start on now, look at the logistics, fulfillment and manufacturing sites.
